Share the Tale of a Lonely Ghost

GOING SOLO:
THE TALE OF A LONELY GHOST

In a theater, the “ghost light” (a bare bulb mounted on a movable stand) is left burning whenever the stage is dark and unused.

Pragmatically, it serves as a safety device – and by tradition, it is said to keep the ghosts who haunt old theaters from feeling lonely.

Premiering this Friday, Ray Mercer’s Ghost Light draws on this tradition. Performed by AMB artist Katerina Schweitzer, it evokes the restless spirits idled by our currently dark theaters.

Ghost Light is the latest work in Going Solo: The Guest Series – a new set of films within the Going Solo project featuring works by sought-after guest choreographers from across the nation.

Omaha native Ray Mercer has served as a master teacher at many colleges, universities, companies, and dance institutions worldwide. He has performed as a guest artist with the Boston Ballet and in Broadway shows including The Lion King. He is a resident choreographer for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, and an artist in residence at Omaha Performing Arts.
