A Busy Week for AMB!
The AMB Summer Intensive is off and running
This week our annual Summer Intensive welcomed 48 young dancers for the first of three intensive weeks of ballet, pointe, variations, jazz, modern, contemporary and repertory. This week’s featured guest instructors have been DeeAnna Hiett, professor of dance and chair of the Division of Dance at the UMKC Conservatory, and Kim Sagami, a 14-year veteran of the Joffrey Ballet under the directorship of Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino and today the executive director of the Gerald Arpino Foundation. AMB company artists also are on the Intensive faculty, and students learned a section from AMB artistic director Erika Overturff’s ballet The Bee’s Knees.

A beautiful night out for ballet
After the weather forced a “rain check” the previous week, AMB and our friends at Ballet Des Moines were able to welcome a warmly enthusiastic crowd Tuesday for Ballet at The RiverFront, a free open-air performance in downtown Omaha at the Gene Leahy Mall. Those attending got to join AMB dancers for an onstage ballet class, then watched AMB perform favorite sections from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, while Ballet Des Moines kicked off its summer tour with a mixed-repertory performance. Huge thanks to our community activity partners the Omaha Symphony, Omaha Children’s Museum, Omaha Performing Arts, and PACE!
