In an Anxious Time, Elena Turned to Dance

GOING SOLO:
IN AN ANXIOUS TIME,
ELENA TURNED TO DANCE

In an instant last September, Elena Carter’s life turned upside down. Her father, running on a Seattle street that had been closed to traffic, was struck by an errant car and seriously injured.

Elena rushed home to be with her family. “You never really know what’s going to happen,” she said. “I didn’t know what to do – I didn’t know how to help. I decided I wanted to choreograph a solo to dedicate to my father on his road to recovery.”

Eventually, with her father slowly on the mend, Elena turned that choreography into this week’s Going Solo premiere: a simple, heartfelt work titled Soon You’ll Get Better.

This week’s premiere is our first to feature a guest filmmaker: Los Angeles-based photographer and videographer Connor Jalbert, a longtime friend of Elena, who worked with her in Seattle to create their film.

Join the virtual premiere by watching the film any time beginning at 7 pm CST Friday on our Facebook and YouTube channels.
