Overturff and 'Momentum' honored at OEA Awards

February 13, 2012 — American Midwest Ballet’s spring 2011 production of Momentum was named best dance production at the 2012 Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards held on Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Hilton in Downtown Omaha. Artistic director Erika Overturff was also honored as best featured dancer.
“I am so grateful to all of you who supported American Midwest Ballet in our debut season last year,” said Overturff as she accepted the first of two awards. “I am so proud of our company dancers too – good job, American Midwest Ballet!”
An impressive total of seven  nominations were garnered this year. Ballet master Matthew Carter received two nominations in the category of  best featured dancer – one for for his role as Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the other for his inspiring performances in Momentum 2011.
Company dancer Sasha York was also nominated as best featured dancer for his athletic and artistic performances in Momentum 2011. Debbie Overturff was honored with a nomination for achievement in costume design for her breathtaking work featured in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Over two hundred artists, performers and musicians were nominated for the the annual red carpet-style event which honors talent from the world of performing arts, visual arts and music.
American Midwest Ballet’s spring 2012 production of Momentum premiers on Mar. 30 at Joslyn Art Museum’s Witherspoon Concert Hall with a second performance Mar. 31. The company will also take the production on tour to Beatrice, NE on Apr. 1.
