Nutcracker audition season is an exciting time of year for many young dancers. Unfortunately, the pandemic has put us in a very difficult position by limiting both our ability to rehearse together and to perform in a theater setting. Professional dance involves many hours of intense physical activity at close quarters.
Putting the safety of our dancers and our community first, we must cancel our performances for the remainder of 2020. This includes canceling Nutcracker auditions, which were scheduled for August 14-15.
We realize this is probably disappointing to you – it is to us too! We would love nothing more than to see our auditioners’ eager smiling faces in our studios. After reviewing national guidance for the dance industry, and following discussions with other professional companies around the country, we feel this is the most prudent course of action.
We are finding creative new ways to safely share the magic of dance with our community, free of charge, including:
- Streaming performances and online content
- Offering a rich dance-based curriculum with study guides for schools and community engagement partners
- Teaching interactive workshop classes online
We are excited to offer a brand new opportunity this year: special Nutcracker-themed workshops coached by our professionals where you will have the chance to learn some of your favorite roles from The Nutcracker! While we’ll all miss the stage, this will be a great chance to explore new choreography, strengthen your skills, and experience the fun of one of our favorite ballets!
Follow our website or our social media channels for more information about this opportunity!
Alice in Wonderland Auditions
Activities for our students and company artists will remain virtual through the end of December, 2020. We hope to be able to return to in-person events beginning in January and will continue to evaluate the situation as COVID-19 progresses.
Stay tuned for more information on the student roles in our spring production of Alice in Wonderland.
