Ballet Nebraska welcomes 2013-14 company

After a summer of travel, classes, performances, teaching, guesting and vacations, American Midwest Ballet’s professional dancers are  back in Omaha to work on the company’s fourth season, which started earlier than usual this year on Aug. 12.
First days back are always fun. “We get to work with some dancers we haven’t seen all summer, and also welcome some new faces,” says artistic director Erika Overturff. “Our wonderful ballet guild hosted a welcome luncheon for us. It was more of a feast.”

“Each work day begins with company class in the morning,” says Overturff. “That’s followed by rehearsals throughout the day until 4pm, with a small break for lunch.”
“This is their full-time job,” Overtuff says of the dancers. “It’s what they do all day, all week, all season long.”
Rehearsals begin for American Midwest Ballet’s season premiere of Winthrop Corey’s Snow White on Sep. 28 and 29 at the Rose Theater. Company members have also started rehearsals for Opera Omaha’s production of Georges Bizet’s Carmen on Nov. 1 and 3 at the Orpheum Theater.
