OMAHA, NE – July 20, 2016 — Three days of student auditions resulted in the casting of 107 students for American Midwest Ballet’s production of the holiday favorite The Nutcracker. In addition to auditions for youth dance roles, the company also selected youth singers for the North Wind Chorus in collaboration with Opera Omaha.
Founder and artistic director Erika Overturff and costume designer Debbie Overturff also conducted costume fittings for the youth cast over several days following auditions.
Holding auditions in July for The Nutcracker has worked out well for the company.
“We appreciate the extra couple of months to work on the beautiful costumes for our large cast of student dancers,” says Overturff. “I like to add special details and updates to our production that keep it unique and fresh each season.”
The Nutcracker continues its holiday tradition in Omaha at the Orpheum Theater December 3 and 4, with a special pre-Thanksgiving matinee performance at the Arts Center at Iowa Western in Council Bluffs on Nov. 20.
American Midwest Ballet will debut its seventh season with the iconic classical ballet Swan Lake at the Orpheum on October 22.
