For Katerina, Clara is a Dream Role

Katerina Schweitzer will become the first professional to dance the role of Clara in American Midwest Ballet’s The Nutcracker, opening November 20.
FOR KATERINA, CLARA IS LITERALLY A DREAM ROLE

At her family’s Christmas party, her uncle gives her a special gift and tells her an intriguing story that sends her on an enchanting journey in her dreams. Her name is Clara, and she is the heart and soul of the world’s most beloved holiday ballet: The Nutcracker.

This year, for the first time in American Midwest Ballet’s history, Clara will be danced by a company professional. Chosen for the role is Katerina Schweitzer, now in her fifth season with AMB.

“Performing as Clara in a professional production has always been a dream of mine,” she says. “I’m hoping the audience will be able to feel the pure happiness and excitement that I truly feel while getting to play Clara!

“Having been away from the stage for over a year, I’ll be coming back with a different perspective, and experience the magic of The Nutcracker like it’s new to me… just like how Clara feels as the events unfold in front of her for the first time!”

To see Katerina live out her dream, order your tickets now!

Even with a mask (for rehearsals only) Katerina expressively conveys Clara’s range of emotions as she experiences the ballet’s party scene and battle.
