Meet Our Guest Dancers!
[December 5, 2023]
Among the things that make American Midwest Ballet’s The Nutcracker a memorable experience are performances by two groups of special guest dancers who join our 25-member professional company and 59-member community ensemble onstage for the spectacular production.
Performing in the party scene are our guests from Discover Dance, a cooperative program between AMB and Girls Inc., in which AMB company artist Kogan Murphy teaches weekly ballet classes at Girls Inc.’s Omaha North campus.
“We are delighted to share the stage with young dancers from Discover Dance,” Erika said. “They have amazing enthusiasm and work hard to prepare for the show!”
A unique feature of AMB’s Nutcracker is the Indian variation, presented in collaboration with Viswanatya Niketan, an Omaha-based school of classical Indian dance under the direction of Ushasree Devaraju. The music is a lesser-known segment that Tchaikovsky composed as part of the original Nutcracker score.
“One of my favorite aspects of this variation are the bells worn on the dancers’ ankles,” Erika said. “They make a beautiful sound as the performers move in unison!”
