A CROWN JEWEL OF FOSSE STYLE:
SING, SING, SING
Bob Fosse’s revolutionary all-dance musical Dancin’ opened on Broadway in 1978. The entire show was a hit, winning Fosse a Tony Award for choreography, but one section stood above all the rest: Sing, Sing, Sing.
This self-contained dance masterpiece evokes the energy of an underground nightclub where patrons step out to sizzling swing music (supplied in our production by a live onstage band headed by Omaha jazz trumpeter Doyle Tipler.)
Later recreated for the 1998 musical Fosse and again for Dancin’s 2023 Broadway revival, Sing, Sing, Sing has come to epitomize the choreographer’s distinctive style and is regarded as a crown jewel of Fosse choreography.

“MORE THAN JUST A STYLE…”
Broadway star Dylis Croman, a protégé of Fosse muse Ann Reinking and a cast member in the 2023 revival of Dancin’, spent two weeks teaching the work and sharing the nuances of the choreography with our dancers.
“The Fosse style is more than just a style,” Dylis said. “It’s a story to tell. His work always comes from an acting point of view – it’s acting first, and then the steps.
“And that’s why people have always gravitated to his work: they can find an understanding through it. They might not be able to pinpoint what it is, but the reason they enjoy watching it so much is because they’re watching characters dancing, not just dancing for the sake of doing steps. The steps come out of truth and storytelling.”
Now it’s your chance to experience the exhilaration of this modern masterwork! Get your tickets to Momentum, October 18 and 19 at the Hoff Family Arts & Culture Center, for Sing, Sing, Sing!
