Monique Haley is an Assistant Professor of Dance and African American and African Studies at Western Michigan University. Her research centers on African cultural values, ethos, and the importance of cultivating ritual in contemporary jazz dance pedagogy.
She was the first African-American woman to join Chicago’s renowned River North Dance Company and was a River North member for nine seasons. She also has been a member of Bermuda Dance Company and the Eleone Dance Theater of Philadelphia. Her Love Games, which premiered in 2012, was the first work ever commissioned by American Midwest Ballet.
